End

I put this word in because it seems to me that it is a problem word. When I was a young girl I had been taught that we had one chance at heaven and that meant we had to learn all we needed to know and to become before we died because death was the end. At that point you were sent to heaven or hell.

Thus you will see in both the TV shows Father Brown and Touched by an Angel the priest or the angel pleading with someone (who is usually dying) to decide to change before it is too late.

That's the problem - that idea that there is an end - a place in time where you can no longer change and become a better person. In all of eternity which began in our pre-mortal life and extends forward forever - how can that be?

I prefer to believe that progression is eternal.
The spark of the divine within continues to grow and develop.

So let's make sure to never use the word "end" to mean we are done growing!

Instead, let's adopt the Growth Mindset - the Power of Yet.

"In a world depleted of hope; in a world of wanting what we want, when we want; it (Growth Mindset) expresses our required patience and belief in one's self or another person's abilities; to realize that some things are worth waiting for and those things take work, time, and don't always come in the form of anything that could be remotely easy.

We are all on a learning journey and just because you haven't accomplished a task yet, does not mean that you cannot or should not try and certainly that you should not give up."

Growth Mindset says
"I believe in you, give it a try, encourage one another."

Hope is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all.

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I've heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

I have a growth mindset:
  • I can always improve
  • Mistakes help me learn
  • I persevere when I am frustrated
  • I can learn anything that I want to
  • I am inspired by people who succeed
  • I like to challenge myself
  • My effort and attitude make all the difference

*******************************

There is a difference between
NOT KNOWING
and
not knowing
YET.

To me the growth mindset equals
HOPE

Actually, we should say it equals:

Faith - faith in our divine potential and in the Savior's power to save us and heal us.

Hope - hope that as we try and as we encourage each other and never give up that we'll become heirs of all God has promised.

Charity - along the way we must be kind to ourselves and to each other and keep doors open as we progress in our own way and in our own time.
